The National Wildfire Suppression Association did a presentation to ORAC 4 years ago asking for the rates for wildland firefighting to be seperated from the current Logging Rate this they have to report under.
We were awarded a new Class Code 2704 in Oregon for Wildland Firefighting. However before a pure rate could be established we had to wait 3 years for worth of reporting into that code.
Good news! Starting January 1, 2010 the new rate takes affect for 2704 and here is the news I got from SAIF today.
"We have news about the January 1, 2010 Oregon workers' compensation pure rates for WLFF. Class 2704.
Class 2704 has developed a sufficient data base to be set as it's own rate no longer using Logging base period data. This change has shown the pure rate for Wild Land Fire Fighting dropping from 20.92 per $100 remuneration to 16.95 a decrease of 29 points. We have also noted the expected claim frequency is lower reflecting the better performance of WLFF versus logging in the workers' compensation arena.
We acknowledge the valuable contributions made by Debbie Miley and the NWSA."
